Intramurals

If this isn’t the type of sports you were looking for, we also have more options available. Check out other sport offerings.

Make friends. Enjoy competition. Get active. Have fun.

UVic hosts one of the largest post-secondary education intramural programs in B.C. open to students, staff, alumni and community members. With a wide variety of sports and activities, intramurals are available to anyone on or off campus with a strong focus on creating a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for people of all ages and skill levels. Intramurals contributes to student wellbeing through physical activity and personal wellness while building a community. Make friends, get fit, have fun!

Intramural leagues take place on campus using the many indoor and outdoor facilities including the fields, gymnasiums and the fieldhouse.

Participants have the opportunity to create their own team of friends, classmates, community members, etc.

Note: Updated Community Intramural Access Membership

To participate in Vikes intramural leagues during the fall (Sept 1 – Dec 31) and winter (Jan 1 – April 30) semesters, Non-UVic Assessed students are required to purchase a Community Intramural Access Membership, now set at $120 per semester. This fee is not required for summer intramurals.

This membership ensures all participants contribute equitably to the cost of intramural programs, similar to UVic students who pay a recreation fee as part of their tuition. The funds collected help support staffing, facility access, equipment, and program operations — allowing us to continue offering high-quality, inclusive, and affordable recreation opportunities for the whole community.

Memberships can be purchased through the Vikes Active Living website.

Default Fines:

Default Fines are a $50 fee charged to teams who perform misconduct in the league or forfeit a game without notifying a manager within 48 hours of their scheduled game time. Captains will be assessed the fee on imleagues and will need to pay to have their team scheduled for the rest of the semester. Teams that forfeit games before the 48-hour cutoff will not be subjected to this fine.

Rec vs. advanced leagues

We are thrilled to announce that our intramural program will be offering both recreational (rec) and advanced divisions in some of our most popular sports this year. This new structure is designed to cater to players of all skill levels, ensuring a fun and competitive environment for everyone.

  • Recreational Division: Ideal for those who are new to the sport or just looking to have a good time in a less competitive setting. This division emphasizes participation, enjoyment, and sportsmanship. It's perfect for making new friends, staying active, and enjoying the game without the pressure of high-stakes competition.
  • Advanced Division: Tailored for more experienced players who are seeking a higher level of competition. If you have a strong background in the sport and are looking for a challenging and competitive atmosphere, this division is for you. Showcase your skills, compete at a higher intensity, and enjoy the thrill of advanced play.

Open vs co-rec

Vikes Intramurals runs “open” leagues so that all individuals can participate based on their interest and skill level rather than being restricted by gender-based team compositions. Co-rec leagues can unintentionally exclude individuals who do not fit neatly into traditional gender categories or who do not feel comfortable playing on teams defined by their gender.

By removing gender-based restrictions, "open" intramural sports leagues create a more welcoming environment where all individuals can participate without barriers, fostering inclusivity and diversity within the sports community.

Open leagues have NO requirements for gender.
